Chief Engineer Cycling 7,000km Across Canada

Chief Engineer at Marshall Canada, Ron Eckersley has decided to do something extraordinary and cycle his way across the vast and rugged terrain of Canada in order to raise funds for various charities across the country.

Ron starts pedalling from Whitehorse, the capital of northwest Canada’s Yukon territory on Friday 8 July and will finish his journey in the east of the country in Halifax. That’s a total of nearly 7,000 kilometres.

Having prepared with a rigorous training programme and trialling various equipment set ups, Ron’s done as much as he possibly can to ensure his ride is a success. He’ll also be using both road and gravel bikes for the various terrains he will encounter on his long journey.

We asked Ron how we can keep up to date with how he gets on.

“For those who would like to follow my trip, you can go and follow my Instagram page, @ronbikescanada. I hope to post updates on here daily (or as often as I have internet or cell cover). I’m also the sports app Strava, so you can see my exact routes!"

Ron would like to initially bring attention to the Yukon Kids Recreation Fund near Whitehorse, who provide grants to low-income families to give kids opportunities in team sports and individual sports such as cycling.

We hope you will join us in supporting Ron on his incredible journey through the vast and rugged land of Canada. From north to south it spans more than half the Northern Hemisphere. From east to west it stretches almost 4,700 miles (7,560 kilometres) across six time zones. It is the second largest country in the world, but it has only one-half of one percent of the world's population.
